The Power of Getting to Know God

The Power of Getting to Know God

I grew up in a Christian family and have been going to Sunday school for as long as I can remember.
Even though I had my ups and downs with Jesus, before coming to DTS, I thought I knew Him. I believed I understood who He was, that He loved me, died for me, and so on.

But in the first weeks of DTS, I realized that I only knew about Him—about someone I called Jesus. I had rarely experienced His love, freedom, and kindness in a real, tangible way.
I remember feeling so filled with purpose and joy that I couldn’t even explain where it came from.

Getting to know God isn’t just a nice experience that fades away. When you truly encounter even a glimpse of His love and kindness, it always leads to action—not out of guilt, shame, or obligation, but from a deep conviction in your heart. Things you never thought possible suddenly become reality through the revelation of God’s character.

I remember asking an old classmate for forgiveness for something I had said to him five years ago because I felt so convicted by the Holy Spirit. I remember wanting to tell people about Jesus because I had caught a glimpse of God’s love for the lost. I remember repenting for my wrongdoings and experiencing true forgiveness toward others.

And all of this happened simply because I got to know God a little bit more.

This is what the lecture phase of DTS is about—getting to know God deeply and being transformed by His grace.
