Learning to Hear God’s Voice at DTS: A Personal Story
Before I came to DTS, I had no clue how to hear God’s voice.
I would hear my friends talk about it—how God spoke to them, led them, encouraged them—and deep down, I wondered if they were just making it up, or if maybe it was something that just wasn’t for me.
It sounded amazing… but felt far away from anything I had ever experienced.
I wanted to believe it was possible. But honestly, I wasn’t sure.
Week 1: Hearing God’s Voice
In the very first week of my YWAM Discipleship Training School, we had teaching on Hearing God’s Voice.
It felt like a window opened into a world I had only heard whispers about.
The stories. The testimonies. The truth that God still speaks today—
It was exciting, inspiring… and honestly, a little overwhelming.
At the end of class, our teacher smiled and said:
“You’ve heard about it. Now it’s time to do it. We’re going to listen for God’s voice.”
The Moment That Changed Everything
My heart started pounding.
-
Could I really hear Him?
-
What if nothing happened?
-
What if it was just my own thoughts… or worse, something bad?
All the doubts swirled in my mind.
But despite the questions, we prayed.
And in that simple, quiet moment… it happened.
A soft, steady whisper deep inside:
“Everything will be okay. I am with you.”
It wasn’t loud. It wasn’t dramatic.
But I knew—deep in my spirit—that those words weren’t mine.
No judgment.
No pressure.
Just love.
Just peace.
Just God.
A New Way of Living
That moment changed everything.
I realized that hearing God’s voice isn’t about being “super spiritual” or perfect.
It’s about spending time with Him, opening our hearts, and learning to recognize His presence.
It’s not just for leaders or missionaries—it’s for every believer.
Hearing God’s voice is part of a relationship.
It’s how we grow in knowing who He is.
And it’s how we discover who we are: His beloved sons and daughters.
